What is a ‘Short Print’ – Definition – The Sports Card Glossary

A short print (SP) is a sports card that has a print run lower than that of other cards in the set.

For example, if a typical base common card has a print run of 20,000 cards, then any card with a print run less than 20,000 could be considered a short print.

So, this would include any numbered card regardless of the print run. Plus, non-numbered cards that are known to have a limited print run. These include case hits, for example, like Kabooms and Downtowns, but also less flashier sports cards like photo variations and non-numbered retail parallels.

Even more rare than short prints are super short prints (SSP).
